Creating Educational Content for Business

Businesses are scrambling to add educational content to their repertoire. But where to start?

If your business is new to the educational content model, consider these guidelines to create pieces your audience will appreciate:

Keep it interesting

Strive to create something that will provide value to your readers, not just add to the background noise of the Internet. Recognize that all the clicks and shares you seek represent people’s time and energy. Further a conversation in your field or provide new insight from your own perspective. While you want to publish enough that people remember and follow your business, it is better to create and promote a few worthwhile, engaging pieces than to provide a constant stream of repetitive, dull content.

Byline articles provide an opportunity to educate your audience about issues and trends relevant to your field. They must remain educational. Don’t tack on an explanation of why your solution is the best. You can call the audience to action on a given issue, but educational content is not the place to say “Buy our product now!”

Simply include a blurb at the end about yourself and your company, and links to your website and social accounts. Offer quality educational content and let your audience choose to learn more.

Consider who should contribute

Employees across your organization have something to add to your educational content. A company blog is a great place to let many voices be heard and present a range of perspectives on your industry. Many employees will appreciate the chance to share their knowledge on the company’s platform.

Articles, videos, podcasts, infographics and whitepapers can all present educational information. Consider the best use of each, and what audience each is likely to reach. Shape the tone and choose contributors accordingly.

Use your social media networks to share educational content from your own organization and others in the field.

When creating educational content for business, consider ways to make it evergreen, so that your  business can promote it in the future.
